COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina's Garrett Chisolm had been out of football for two season back in August. Now he is a starting offensive lineman in the Southeast Conference.

The Gamecocks say Chisolm will start at left guard Saturday against Arkansas. Before trying out for the team this summer, Chisolm hadn't played organized football since 2006 with NAIA member Pikeville College in Kentucky.

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier has talked several times this season about how much he likes the 6-foot-6, 290-pound junior's work ethic and attitude. He's even said he hope Chisolm's enthusiasm rubs on off other players.

As for Chisolm himself, it's not clear how he feels about his first start. He has declined media interviews since joining the team.
