LAFE, Ark. (AP) — The last vestige of the campus of Lafe High School in Greene County — the high school gym — is now gone.
The gym came down Wednesday after the Lafe City Council voted Oct. 13 to go ahead with demolition when efforts to obtain grants to repair the building collapsed.
The gym was built in 1948 but hasn't been used in about 15 years and city officials say the building was unsafe. The high school was built in 1937 and was destroyed by fire in 1990.
The city hopes to get a grant to build a storm shelter and community center on the site.
Lafe is in northern Greene County, north of Paragould.
