A River Valley veteran was honored today with a free Thanksgiving turkey from Butterball.
As the one millionth bird rolled off the line at the plant in Ozark, company officials gave it to Harold Pickartz, a veteran of World War II. Butterball began the tradition of honoring local heroes last year.
"We're very thankful to our veterans and this is the time of year where everybody starts thinking about what they're thankful for," said Andrew Lekwa, plant manager. "We're very thankful for the job that they do for us and how they keep us safe here at the home front."
Pickartz served with the 32nd Infantry Division in the Pacific during WWII and was called back to active duty to serve in Korea, after helping to start the Ozark National Guard C-Battery.
