Spring Hill Park at the Barling Lock and Dam has been full of fourth graders and corps of engineer park rangers all day.

All fourth graders in the Fort Smith school system were met at the corps park by 42 park rangers coming in from four surrounding states. The kids were there to learn about boating safety with emphasis on wearing life jackets.

Ranger Allison Smedley says she and the other rangers will be at the park again tomorrow for Vest Fest 2009 which is free and open to the public. The event begins at 9a.m. Saturday morning and ends at 2p.m.

In addition to learning about water safety, Ranger Smedley says you'll also have a chance to win one of the hourly door prizes they'll be handing out.
