An investigation is underway into a shooting that happened southeast of Greenwood this morning.

Authorities were called to a home around 7:30 a.m. When they got there, they found a man near his father's home who had been shot in the leg. The victim claimed he was checking the area to see if there was a prowler after he found his father's barn unlocked.

"The father said he was inside the house and heard two shots," says Capt. Kevin Nickson with the Sebastian County Sheriff's Office. "When he went outside, he saw his son laying on the ground across the street."

Capt. Nickson says after interview a person of interest, investigators now believe that the person was somewhere else at the time of the shoot. He says they are interviewing everyone involved again.

The victim was shot in the leg with a small caliber rifle. Nickson says they recover a rifle belonging to the victim at the crime scene.
