Several police officers were led on a chase this afternoon that began in Fort Smith and ended in Crawford County.
Police say Raymel Cunningham was arrested and taken to the Crawford County Jail, after he was finally stopped by police there. The chase began when Fort Smith officers were called to a home in the 5000 block of Johnson to investigate an assault report. When they arrived Cunningham allegedly fled, crossing the I-540 bridge. Authorities say he tossed a .22 caliber pistol out of his car.
Officers recovered the gun and Cunningham now faces charges of possession defaced firearm, fleeing apprehension and several traffic violations.
