You can find them in practically every classroom: dry erase markers. And now EXPO, a company which makes markers, whiteboards and accessories is honoring an exceptional group of educators.
Alma teacher Erica Walters is one of 12 teachers nationwide to be named and "EXPO Extraordinary Educator."
"I was just thrilled, because there are so many teachers who deserve this award," Walters said. "I'm very blessed they did choose me. There's just so many people who dedicate their fife to this and the lives of their students, so I just feel very blessed."
Walters is a kindergarten teacher at Alma Primary school. Thousands of entries were submitted in an essay contest sponsored by EXPO. Angela Jamieson, a friend of Walters' from Van Buren wrote an essay that expressed the enthusiasm that Walters bring to her classroom.
Jamieson writes that Walter's passion for "educating young minds is driven from a deep-down, unprejudiced an unbiased love for each child. Not only does she pride herself in intellectually growing young minds, she also is very involved in each child's livelihood outside of school."
Walters will receive a $500 gift card, $500 of classroom supplies from EXPO and a mimio® Interactive + Ink Capture system for her classroom.
The Expo Extraordinary Educator campaign was designed to recognize exceptional teachers who go above and beyond what is required of them. It was EXPO's way of saying thanks to America's best educators while also helping offset the money teachers spend each year out of their own pockets on school supplies.
"We recognized that teachers spend a significant amount of their own money to purchase classroom supplies and we wanted to help out," said Steve Gradman, global director of marketing for EXPO.
