Executive Director Bob Workman says tonight's meeting was held to give the community and update on the progress being made on what he called one of the most complex building projects ever done in Northwest Arkansas.
Workman showed a series of about 100 pictures tonight, revealing what the massive Museum of American Art will look like when completed.
Workman says when the entire structure is finished, it will be the largest American Art Museum in North America. Art work will be displayed throughout 25 thousand square feet of gallery space. And the museum building itself will be a whopping one hundred thousand square feet. There will also be an outdoor sculpture garden, and even an outdoor theater overlooking the water.
Workman also showed pictures of the actual construction site. You can see just how much progress has been made since the Walton Family Foundation announced the project in 2005. But you can also see how much work is left to be done.
On crystal bridges website, the time for completion is set for 2010, but workman said tonight, the date is no longer set in stone. He says due to the complexity of the project they know longer have a specific date set for the completion of the museum. He hopes to give a more firm answer in the next few months.
Workman did say the biking and walking trail surrounding the museum will open in May. From the trail, you can get a clear view of the construction site.
