Rain Puts a Damper on Fourth of July Fun
Storms in the area forced organizers to move the show in Fort Smith forward two hours, but hundreds were still on hand at the Riverfront Park to enjoy the show.

The Mayor's Fourth of July celebration didn't exactly go off without a hitch.

Rain and lightening forced them to start the show early.

Fortunately, there were still plenty of people who braved the weather to celebrate America's birthday.

Most agreed- it was quite a show. "We thought it was great. Actually we were glad the rain didn't come in to kinda ruin it. And it was good- the contrast with everything so gray and the fireworks back behind. So it was wonderful. We loved it," said Steve Marquez.

Marquez brought his kids to watch the show.

They waited out the first round of storms in the car, as did hundreds of others hoping to see the sky light up this Fourth of July.

And there was plenty to see- this evenings event featured live music as well as fireworks, all for free.

And the rain was causing a damper all across the River Valley and Northwest Arkansas as people were forced indoors on America's birthday.

So despite the stormy weather, Marquez says the trip into downtown Fort Smith was worth it.
