Last week the Sebastian County Health Unit was forced to cancel their second mass flu clinic.

They announced they have rescheduled it for January 8th.

They had scheduled a second mass flu clinic for December fourth, but had to cancel last week due to the nationwide shortage of vaccine.

The Sebastian County Health unit has dedicated November and December to vaccinating children in schools across the county.

They are also using this time to focus on priority groups, such as pregnant women.

They have already held one mass flu vaccination clinic on October 30th.

The clinic was a drive through clinic and the line stretched for miles, causing traffic problems.

The clinic scheduled for January 8th will do things differently.

It will still be held at Kay Rodgers Park, but it will be an indoor walk-in clinic.

Jo Wester with the Sebastian County Health Unit says they are doing it this way because of weather concerns and to avoid any traffic issues.

They will be vaccinating for both the seasonal flu and H1N1, if the vaccine is available.

Wester says the later clinic date works in their favor, and allows them to vaccinate more people. "When you think about it, we will have vaccinated all the schools by then and we will have targeted the priority groups. And waiting on another shipment of vaccine will allow us to vaccinate large numbers and then we won't have to turn as many away," said Wester. The vaccines will be free, but Wester says to bring your Medicaid, Medicare, or insurance card to help with the cost.

The clinic will be January 8th at Kay Rodgers park from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Wester says they are desperately looking for volunteers, especially nurse practitioners.
