A River Valley man will get a $1 a year to run the Mansfield School District, if the Arkansas Department of Education approves.
Tonight the Mansfield School Board held a meeting and voted to make Bob Evans of Greenwood, the Interim Superintendent for the district.
School Superintendent Jim Hattabaugh was suspended with pay during a special meeting last Wednesday. Schools officials say he was suspended because of a personnel matter, and therefore can't elaborate.
Mansfield Schools have been in fiscal distress and this year is holding classes only four days out of the week. School Board President Jim Boatright says Evans has experience helping schools in fiscal distress. He will be paid a dollar a year for his work as the interim superintendent until the end of the school year. Boatright says this takes a lot of stress off the school board.
"Don't have to worry about us trying to run the school," Boatright said at tonight's meeting. "The man has plenty of experience and knows what he's doing. Should be no worries at all."
Boatright says the school will type up a contract for Evans and send it to the state this week and hopefully have it approved by Friday. Hattabaugh is still on a paid suspension. School officials say he still has a year and a half left on his contract. According to Boatright, the school plans to advertise for a new superintendent at the end of the year.
