Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter was in the River Valley today, to talk to students about scholarships funded by a state lottery.
Dozens of young leaders gathered at UA Fort Smith.
The scholarships will provide scholarships to any graduate of an Arkansas high school that maintains a 2.5 grade point average.
But Halter says the lottery needs to go into affect sooner rather than later. "I feel like there is a need for a sense of urgency because every day that the lottery is not up and running is a loss of $1,000,000 in sales in tickets and a loss of $250,000 in scholarships. Every month that we're not up and running is a loss of $8,000,000 dollars in scholarship money," said Halter.
A lottery commission is working on a plan to get the Arkansas lottery in place, as soon as the end of the year.
