Customers Holding Back on Fourth of July
The economy has taken a toll on America's spare dollars.

Vacations are being canceled, and now, shrinking incomes are affecting America's birthday.

Vicki Moore runs Coach's Corner in Greenwood with her husband and daughter.

She and her daughter are school teachers who sell fireworks in the summer for extra income.

She has been selling fireworks for 13 years and she says sales have never been lower. "Well I have to admit that the economy is playing a big part in it. Just compared to six years ago when my husband and I were selling, it's really down. But we have hope. We know Americans are going to celebrate the fourth and they're going to come and do their part and buy these fireworks form us," said Moore.

And it's not just Coach's Corner that seeing a slump.

We stopped at several different firework tents and didn't see a single customer. "It's been slow. It's been really slow. I think the economy has a big say on that. People have been coming in and getting a lot of smaller items, not doing as much. A couple people said they have to wait for pay day and all that. So it's been slow," said Sean Coker.

Coker with the Fireworks World tent on Highway 71 says many people are waiting until closer to the Fourth of July to buy, hoping to catch some deals as prices drop.

And Moore is holding out hope that customers will come through on the Fourth of July. "I think people are going to come out. I think it's just been so hot that people are waiting until they have to come out. But I think they'll be here," said Moore.
