Fort Smith Mayor Ray Baker has been in the hospital since Saturday. A family member says he's taking antibiotics to fight an infection in his prostate.
Mayor Baker's sister, Toy, says the infection is not uncommon. Mayor Baker battled colon cancer in 2007; however Toy says doctors have not connected the two conditions.
Mayor Baker was in the Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital yesterday, where he was treated for the infection. He's since been moved to a regular room. Because of the infection, Mayor Baker had to miss last night's Board of Director's meeting, which is a rarity. Toy describes her brother as upbeat and focused on his job, even in the hospital. She says he regrets not being there.
