Cub Scout Receives Award for Saving Sister
A Cub Scout from Bentonville has received one of the Boy Scout's rarest and most prestigious honors after saving his sister's life.

Trevor Duncan was presented with the Heroism Award for Bravery Thursday night in front of fellow scouts, family and friends. This past summer, during a family cruise on the Caribbean, on his eighth birthday, Trevor saved his sister from drowning in the pool.

Samantha, who was ten at the time, was jumping off the side when she slipped. Her leg got tangled up on the ladder, trapping her underwater, unable to breath. Without hesitation, Trevor immediately jumped in and pushed her up so she could get air. Since the pool was too deep for him to stand, Trevor was even putting his own life in jeopardy.

Trevor was eventually able to get Sam's leg free and help her to safety. The Duncan family credits Trevor's time in the Cub Scouts for giving him the instinct to save his sister's life.

"Cub Scouts has been a big deal on teaching him how to help other people and build things and learn how to survive out in the woods, and go camping and fishing," said Leslie Duncan, Trevor's mom. "That's how I think his instincts kicked in."

5 News asked Trevor what he thought about all the publicity, and he just said one word, "weird."

However, his sister thought he deserved every second of it. "I think it's a great honor that he can be named a hero, and thanks to him I can live my life."

Trevor is part of Cub Scout Pack 136. This is the first time in their 20 year history one of their scouts has received the Heroism Award for Bravery.
