Benton County police say they believe a Rogers home daycare may have served as a base for drug deals. Bentonville and Rogers Police have teamed up for this investigation into a married Rogers couple they believe has been dealing drugs from their home, which also serves as a daycare.
Sergeant Joe Falcon says, "the thing that really concerned both the Bentonville and Rogers Narcotics Division was the fact that there was an ongoing transaction of cocaine at an establishment that takes care of children, and that's not acceptable."
That "establishment" is Denise's Home Day Care, at 1714 Monte Ne Road in Rogers, owned by 46-year-old Denise Boston.
Bentonville Police are charging Denise with accomplice to delivering a controlled substance after they say her husband, Timothy Boston, sold cocaine to an undercover officer with Denise present. Sgt. Falcon explains. "Narcotics officers were able to purchase cocaine from Timothy Boston at the residence." Falcon says officers then made a delivery attempt "with Timothy in which he received funds and then fled without delivering the cocaine. Mrs. Boston was arrested without incident outside their residence."
But Denise's long-time friends like Barbara Phillips say, there's been a mistake. "She has never, or will ever be involved with drugs."
Dawn Turner's daughter has been going to Denise's daycare for years. Turner says, "we were all shocked. She was even shocked because she didn't do it!" Turner says she would still trust Denise with her daughter. "100% trust her. 100% trust her. She would never put them in harm's way. Never. I hope she keeps her license, as long as Tim goes away for a long time."
But right now, police disagree with Denise's friends. Sgt. Falcon says they arrested Denise on Halloween evening, for a reason. "The 4th amendment to the Constitution is very serious. You just don't go and arrest people." But Phillips says, "she wasn't even here when the drugs apparently were brought back here." However, Sergeant Falcon says that is not the case. "Denise is facing an accomplice to the delivery of a controlled substance - the cocaine - because she was present during the transaction that took place at the daycare after hours." Although Denise declined to go on camera, she is now back in her Rogers home, after she says she got out of the Benton County Jail on $15,000 bond. Bentonville Police say the state will have to decide if Denise will keep her daycare license, or not.
Police say Timothy Boston was arrested without incident just outside Houston, Texas, and say he will be extradited back to Arkansas, where he faces several felony drug charges.
