the Energizer Battery Company and local fire departments are urging residents to change their smoke detector batteries this weekend.
The "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery" campaign reminds people to put fresh batteries in their smoke detector and carbon monoxide detectors when they change their clocks back to standard Time. Officials say you are 45% more likely to survive a house fire, if you have a working smoke detector.
"It's extremely important," says Mark Talley with the Fort Smith Fire Department. "I know people get busy and forget things, but that's one thing that can save you and your family's life."
Firefighters say you should have a smoke detector in every bedroom of your home, as well as one on each floor. This is the 22nd year of "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery.
This year the fall time change takes place on Sunday, Nov. 1.
