Arkansas Guard Activated for Winter Storm
The Arkansas National Guard has been activated to set up emergency shelters to the three counties in expected to be hit hardest by this cold blast.

Trucks full of soldiers from Camp Robinson are on the road to deliver cots and blankets. Armories in Rogers and Fayetteville, along with the Armed Forces Reserve Center at Fort Chaffee will each set up 100 cots and receive 200 blankets and bottled water from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management. The Yvonne Richardson center in Fayetteville and the Powell Senior Center in Springdale will also receive emergency supplies.

Governor Mike Beebe declared a State of Emergency Wednesday afternoon to help the state prepare for extreme cold temperatures. That frees &50,000 from the state's emergency fund for disaster relief.

Nearly 1,000 Guard personnel responded to last January's devastating ice storm with missions that included power generation, cots and blankets, emergency shelter, fuel, water, health and welfare checks, route clearance and shower systems.
