The Fort Smith Whirlpool plant has announced more layoffs Friday. The layoffs will affect salaried positions and about 250 hourly positions. Whirlpool employs 1,350 people in Fort Smith.

Whirlpool released this statement to Channel 5 News Friday:

The Fort Smith Division today announced that approximately 40 - 50 salaried positions will be eliminated in order to better align with production levels. We expect to notify those whose positions will be eliminated by the end of August. The dates that the eliminations will be effective will vary, depending on the type of role and other circumstances. We expect most will coincide with an anticipated schedule level change in mid-September.

As we have said previously, the company continues to evaluate all options and will take all necessary steps to help ensure that it remains competitive in what remains a very dynamic marketplace.
