Matt Younkin, a third generation pilot and performer with Younkin Airshows, who was injured in a plane accident this afternoon has reportedly undergone surgery for his injuries.
Around 4 p.m., emergency crews were called to an area near the Syroco Plant in Siloam Springs, where the small aircraft went down. Younkin was taken to Northwest Regional Medical Center in Springdale after the accident. His injuries are non-life threatening, and a family friend says he is expected to be okay.
Younkin is the son of Bobby Younkin, who was killed with co-pilot Jimmy Franklin in an airshow accident in 2005. Younkin and his family continue Bobby's legacy by performing in airshows across the country.
The Younkin Family released this statement on their website last night:
"Matt Younkin was injured while flying the Younkin Mullicoupe on Tuesday afternoon. During his flight he experienced a loss of power and was forced into an emergency landing near a model airplane field south of his home in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Matt's injuries are non-life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2010 airshow season. We would like to thank you for your thoughts and prayers at this time. - Younkin Family"
Authorities say the Federal Aviation Administration will further investigate the accident tomorrow.
