Since the 1960's, KFSM has broadcast its analog VHF channel 5 signal from a tower in the Figure Five community just a few miles north of Fort Smith, AR. In 2002, we began broadcasting digitally on UHF channel 18 from a tower in Winslow, AR.
This difference in location between our analog and digital transmission towers and the transition from a VHF to a UHF channel means that some viewers who could receive our analog signal may not be able to receive our digital signal.
Visit this website for a map showing the predicted difference in coverage between our analog and digital signals.
Specifically, the FCC map has predicted that viewers in the following counties that can receive our analog signal may not be able to receive our digital signal: Latimer, southern LeFlore, western Muskogee, and western Haskell in Oklahoma and Polk, Yell, southern Scott, and eastern Pope in Arkansas. Also, viewers who live near hills, mountains, or tall buildings may also experience difficulties with reception.
Go to the DTV website to check the predicted reception for your area.
In the northwestern Arkansas-eastern Oklahoma area where hilly terrain is the norm, an outdoor combination VHF/UHF antenna is the best option for receiving DTV signals.
