John Engleman is the Sports Director for 5News. Previous to that, John was the Sports Director at KDBC 4, the CBS Affiliate in El Paso, TX, where he worked for 4 years.
He started his career in college hanging banners at events for local radio stations in Dallas. From there, he worked his way up to being an anchor at the most listened to Sports Radio station in the southwest, SportsRadio 1310, The Ticket in Dallas. While there, he interviewed such luminaries as Emmitt Smith, and Alex Rodriguez.
In his last semester at UT-Arlington, John was told that he either had to take a graduate level Comm. Law class, or take an internship. That's where his love of TV began. After being hired as an intern at WFAA-TV in Dallas, he quickly began carrying tripods and logging games. From there, it was light editing chores and looking up stats in media guides and internet sites.
After graduation, John landed his 1st real job in TV as a sports reporter/weekend anchor at KXII, the CBS Affiliate in Sherman/Denison/Ardmore, where he covered everything from 1A basketball games in Achille, OK, to Wednesday Cowboys press conferences.
Nowadays, you can find John either in the field with a camera on his shoulder, losing balls on the golf course, or searching for his cat who likes to escape once the door opens.
